Selecting a Benchmark Group
When using normative scoring, employers should select the benchmark group that it believes most likely represents the reference group of its employees. Making this determination is not always obvious or easy even in the case of selection of industry group norms. Therefore, if norms are to be used (instead of internal benchmarking), employers should carefully consider whether their employees would be most likely to compare themselves with others working in that particular industry group.

Industry Group Norms
The 2009 updates added six industry group norms that can be used with the JDI and JIG for measuring employee job satisfaction.
